The True Ventures Infographic

True Ventures 2018 year In Review Infographic Framed Poster

At the end of 2018, we designed True Ventures’ annual Year In Review infographic. True Ventures is a San Francisco-based team of venture capitalists who “invest in Founders of movements and products that capture the imagination.” Working with a company in the corporate financial sector is a little outside-the-box for us, given that most of our clients are smaller businesses, startups, or nonprofit organizations. However, True’s investments focus on innovation for global good, and the companies they back start small and have a lot of heart. We are 100% on board with their value set and have enjoyed working with them on this project annually since 2016. Each year, the information has expanded as their impact has grown. It’s exciting to summarize graphically the accomplishments they are rightfully proud of.

The infographic is published on their Wordpress blog and has to fit within strict sizing parameters. It’s also designed with both mobile and desktop end-users in mind. The end result is a lengthy, vertical rectangle featuring a bevvy of information in the form of lists, captions, statistics, stories, and highlights. Our challenge is to present this information in an inviting way that minimizes the effort of the end-user, while maximizing impact. We do this with a combination of typography, icons, charts, and photography (not to mention organizing everything into a grid structure – however complex). True Venture’s brand identity is carried in with the font family and a monochromatic color scheme that centers around their signature shade of cobalt blue.

With the long length of the piece in mind, another consideration is the fact that most of the graphic will be “below the fold.” In other words, you won’t see the piece in its entirety on one screen, whatever your device; you will have to scroll down. We need to keep the end-user’s interest and their eyes moving downward without making any one section seem too important – whilst still maintaining some semblance of hierarchy on certain content. We have a lot of amicable back-and-forth with the client to get the balance just so. Once completed, we develop support graphics for social media that True Ventures uses to promote their final infographic blog post. We then adapt the design into a printed poster that they display in their offices (shown above).
